The downtown campus of San Francisco State University welcomes you to the 2011 ACHE–West regional conference, April 28–29. Dean of Continuing Education, University of New Mexico
Rita Martinez–Purson’s impressive portfolio over the past 31 years has evolved from a clear passion for lifelong learning and professional growth. With a career in higher education administration and workforce development that spans from 1979 to the present, her past positions include Dean of Continuing Education at Santa Fe Community College; Interim President of Santa Fe Community College; Human Resources Group Leader for Los Alamos National Laboratory; and Interim Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the University of New Mexico. She has been a Dean of Continuing Education for more than 25 years.
Now as Dean of Continuing Education and Community Services at the University of New Mexico, she administers the largest continuing education program in the state. With a major role in economic and workforce development, this program serves more than 40,000 students annually and employs over 450 staff and faculty, providing innovative educational, training and personal enrichment opportunities for students, businesses and community partners in New Mexico. The division includes the UNM Conference Center, which provides services to more than 200,000 participants each year.
She recently served on the Board of the University Continuing Education Association and chaired the Commission on Leadership and Management and the Opportunity and Equity Committee for that association. A Past Chair of the Board for the Learning Resources Network (LERN), she has served twice on that Board and remains an active leader with that organization.
Dr. Martinez–Purson is a Kellogg Fellow, a recipient of the UNM Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and was recognized as "Santa Fe Business Woman of the Year for 2001."
