Course Description
This Emergency Medical Technician Training Course is designed to prepare and qualify a student to take the Utah EMT written and practical tests for certification as an EMT. After successful completion of the EMT training course, the student will be capable of performing the following functions:

  1. Perform a rapid and detailed assessment of a patient with a medical or traumatic emergency;
  2. Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient’s condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care;
  3. Give life-saving interventions to treat problems associated with airway, breathing, and circulation;
  4. Administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment findings of the patient’s condition;
  5. Given a mass casualty incident, perform triage; and,
  6. Perform safely and effectively the expectations of the job description of the EMT.

The EMT course is 160 hours in length. 10 or more hours are spent in a clinical setting gaining hands-on experience treating patients.
