
Troy Andersen, MSW, MS, LCSW
Troy Andersen is a dementia specialist clinical social worker at the Center for Alzheimer’s Care, Imaging and Research at the University of Utah. He is pursuing a doctorate in social work with an emphasis in developing proactive dementia services for individuals in the early stages of the disease, and other aging-related topics. In 2010, he was selected as a John A. Hartford Doctoral Fellow in geriatric social work and was awarded the Anna Dresel Award for outstanding graduate student in gerontology. Troy received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Utah, a master’s degree in social work from Brigham Young University, and a master’s degree in gerontology from the University of Utah. He teaches graduate-level courses in the University of Utah College of Social Work. For the last four years, he has worked at the University of Utah’s Center for Alzheimer’s Care, Imaging and Research, providing medical social work services to patients with dementing diseases, and their caregivers and families. During his 20 years of clinical experience, he also has worked extensively with individuals with chronic mental illness, as well as in crisis intervention, trauma and grief issues.
Mark Crosby, Registered Pharmacist
Mark Crosby has been a major contributor to pharmacy for the last 31 years. Upon graduating in pharmacy from the University of Utah, he started his career as a pharmacist at Cottonwood Hospital. He then moved on to Intermountain Homecare, where he has worked for the past 19 years in roles from pharmacist to pharmacy manager to director, his current role. He is a licensed pharmacist in Utah and is affiliated with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, as well as the National Home Infusion Association. Mark is extremely knowledgeable in pharmaceuticals as a whole and is acutely aware of dosing and side effects. If you find that you have misplaced your pharmacopeia, Mark is the next-best thing.
The Rev. Kelly Soon Fogarty
The Rev. Kelly Soon Fogarty has a degree in economics and previously worked as a development director and manager of nonprofit agencies focusing on health and healing. Sixteen years ago, her spiritual journey led her to the path of Buddhism. She was ordained as a monk in May 2005 by her teacher, Genpo Roshi. A board-certified chaplain, for the past six years she has been using her spirituality and training as an interdenominational chaplain at Hospice for Utah, serving hospice patients and their families. She is currently the convener of the Millcreek Chapter of the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy.
Richard Allyn Heaps, Ph.D., ABPP
Dr. Richard Heaps is a part-time professor of psychology and a counseling psychologist at Brigham Young University. He is also director of the Ph.D. counseling psychology program. He recently retired from full-time work at BYU, where he has been a counselor since 1970 and a professor since 1979. He has a doctorate and is board certified in psychology. Dr. Heaps has served on the board of directors of the Utah Psychology Association for more than 10 years and for the American Red Cross for six years (two years as chair), and a has been a volunteer in mental health and disaster response for almost 20 years.
MiLinda Hudnall, LCSW
MiLinda Hudnall, LCSW, is currently senior social worker in the Orem Veterans Administration Medical Clinic. She is experienced in hospice care, having spent seven years as a hospice social worker as well as working on crisis lines. MiLinda loves working with patients and their families and is passionate about the work she does.
Dr. Bretton Newman, M.D.
Dr. Bretton Newman earned her medical degree from the State University of New York, Buffalo School of Medicine. As a medical student, she volunteered for hospice and developed a strong interest in end-of-life care, pain management, and palliative medicine. She completed a residency in family medicine at St. Mark’s Hospital and obtained specialty clinical training in palliative medicine in Utah and California. Dr. Newman is medical director for Rocky Mountain Hospice. She is an active member of the Utah Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She focuses on providing pain and symptom management in the comfort and privacy of patients’ homes. She also sees patients at assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Newman is board certified in family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine.
Dr. John Wood, M.D.
John Wood attended medical school at the University of Utah and then completed a three-year family medicine residency at San Bernardino County Hospital in California. He has been certified by the American Board of Family Practice since 1980. He was also board certified in hospice and palliative medicine in 2002 and again in 2008. Dr. Wood is the full-time medical director for Intermountain Hospice in Davis, Weber and Box Elder counties. He is the editor of Hospice Hints. He presented on the use of topical medications at the 2007 national meeting of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine in Nashville, TN. He is past president of the Ogden Surgical-Medical Society and the Weber County Medical Society, and past department chairman for primary care at McKay-Dee Hospital.
