FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions for Registration & Application

Many questions can be answered by visiting the General Information page on our website.

Continuing Education User ID
How do I know if I already have a Continuing Education User ID?

If you have ever registered for a BYU Continuing Education program (EFY, PowWow, Education Week, Dance Camps, etc.), you most likely have a Continuing Education User ID. You may also call BYU Continuing Education’s Registration office at 801-422-8925 (toll free, 1-877-221-6716) to see if you have a Continuing Education User ID.

What if I forgot my Continuing Education User ID or my Password?

Go to the Registration page. Under the “Register Now” button in the center of the page is a link, “Manage My Continuing Education Information.” This link will take you to the log-in page. Below the log-in boxes are “forgot user ID” and “forgot password” links. Click on these to retrieve your Continuing Education User ID and/or password. If you have any trouble with this process, call Registration at 1-877-221-6716 (toll free) or 801-422-8925.

Dress and Appearance
Are the hairstyle standards enforced at EFY?

Yes. The hair length standard for males is strictly enforced. Any unnatural color or style for males or females is not accepted. Participants who do not comply will not be allowed to check into their session and will not receive a refund.

Financial Aid

For questions about financial aid, visit the Financial Aid webpages.

Refunds
If I attend part of the session and go home early, can I receive a refund for the days I did not attend?

No. Before each session begins, EFY must pay each host campus for housing, food, supplies, and other accommodations. Even if you only attend part of the week, EFY is under contract to pay as if you were there the entire week.

How will I receive a refund?

When you withdraw from a session (as late as two weeks before it begins), a refund will automatically be credited back to the card charged for the registration. It should appear on the account within one to three weeks. (See Refund Policy).

If I withdraw instead of transfer, can I get a refund for the withdrawal fee?

No. The $25 withdrawal fee is nonrefundable. If you wish to transfer sessions, you must use the transfer option in your account and do so before the two-week deadline.

If you withdraw from a session and then re-enroll, you will be charged the withdraw fee and new enrollment fees. If you meet our deadlines, call the EFY Office and have the withdrawal fee credited toward the new session. Please see Transferring Sessions for further details.

Registration
My child's friend has registered for a session, and I need to wait until Open Registration to register my youth. What shall I do?

You have three choices:

  • Wait and watch for an open spot in your child's friend's session and then register your child in the same session. This can be done up to two weeks before the session begins.
  • Find a session with two open spots and have your child's friend transfer (no charge) and enroll your child in this session. List them as roommates after both are enrolled in the same session.
  • Have your child and another friend enroll in a session with two open spots.

NOTE: Listing two friends as roommates does not enroll them in the same session. Both must be enrolled in the same session, and then they can list each other and request to be linked as roommates.

I want my youth to be in on-campus housing in Provo. Which session shall I choose?

All Provo sessions now have on-campus housing. Parents/youth cannot pick which on-campus facility they stay in, as this information is given to the EFY office just before the session begins.

What can I do if I missed Priority Registration?

You may enroll in an available session during open enrollment, which starts at the beginning of February (please see Registration Processes). Enrollment continues until two weeks before the session begins or until the session is filled.

How do I get into the same session with others?

When you register during priority registration, you can select three friends to also have priority registration. Your confirmation page will have a button to click so you can add others, or you can log into your account and add the friends by clicking the “Continue” button under “edit program selections.” These friends must have applied to EFY and have their application confirmation number, which you will need to know to add them. When a participant enters another’s confirmation number, the matching name will appear.

What happens if my registration page times out?

If you are idle on the registration page for 30 minutes, you will automatically be timed out and will have to wait in the online queue again to log back in. Also, if you are logged into the same account in more than one window and any of the windows are left idle for 30 minutes, you will be timed out of all the sessions you are logged into (even if you are actively registering someone in one of the windows). If the spot you were attempting to register for is gone when you log in again, you will have to wait to see if a spot opens later. If you apply and register during priority registration, your wait times should be dramatically reduced.

What do I do if the gender is wrong on my registration/confirmation?

If your son or daughter was registered as the wrong gender, it means the wrong gender was selected while registering. Unfortunately, because the registrations are separated by gender, we cannot transfer him or her to a spot in the correct gender. You need to withdraw your child, change the personal info, and re-register him or her. If the gender you need is full in the session you were in, keep checking back for an open spot. Check the session schedule to see available spots.

How do I get a copy of my confirmation?

Print a copy of the confirmation page when you finish registering. If you need one later, log into your account and print it; or request an electronic copy by calling Registration (801-422-8925 or toll free 1-877-221-6716) or the EFY office, 801-422-3817, ext. 0.

Why did the BYU Provo sessions change from colors to letters?

This change came about so counselor groups would no longer be identified by colors. All counselor groups will be the same. This in no way affects the content of the sessions.

What information will I need to register?

  • Phone #
  • E-mail address

  • Full name (as on his/her registration)

  • Physician phone number
  • Insurance provider
  • Insurance Policy number

  • Any special dietary needs, such as celiac disease

Roommates
When do I choose a roommate?

This is done during the priority registration period and anytime during open enrollment up to two weeks before your session starts. All roommate information needs to be finalized before registration closes for the session for which you are registered.

If I list a roommate, does that mean he/she is enrolled in my same session?

No. You may request a roommate when you register for EFY, or anytime after you enroll for EFY until one week before the session starts. You must be registered in the same EFY session, have the same gender, and be in the same age group to be considered as roommates. Listing a friend or relative as a roommate preference does not mean that the person is then registered in the same session. Registering for a session and listing someone as a roommate are two entirely different procedures. When requesting a roommate, you must enter your roommate’s name exactly as he/she entered it on the registration. Be careful to spell his or her name correctly.

Can I edit my roommate preference?

To add, delete, or change your roommate preference, log into your account, click “edit/transfer,” click on “housing,” then change your roommate preference. All roommate information should be finalized before registration closes for the session for which you are registered (10:00 a.m. Monday, 14 days before your session starts). Please see our General Information page for further information on roommates.

How do I become a roommate with someone who is older than I am?

To be roommates, participants must be in the same age group and have the same gender. If a friend is in another age group, you cannot be roommates unless the friend is older and wants to move down to the younger group. In such cases, call the EFY office for registration assistance.

If there is an open spot and I register after the two-week deadline, can I choose my roommate?

You can request a roommate, but even if there are enough spaces in a session after the two-week deadline, you will have a lower chance of being roommates with a friend of your choice.

Session Information
How do I find information about the session my child is attending?

Click on your child’s session on the Session Schedule. The information is updated a few weeks before the specific session begins.

Transfers/Withdrawals
What is the difference between transferring and withdrawing?

Transferring from one session to another simply moves your registration to a different session and applies your registration fees to it. There is no additional charge for transferring sessions.

Withdrawing from a session means you are no longer enrolled in an EFY session. You will receive a tuition refund minus a $25 nonrefundable withdrawal fee. This fee will be charged for each withdrawal from a session. If you accidentally withdraw from a session, or if you withdraw and re-enroll (instead of transferring), you will not receive a refund for the withdrawal fee

Is there a deadline for withdrawals and transfers?

Yes. All withdrawals and transfers must be completed by 9:59 a.m. mountain time on the Monday two weeks before the session begins. After that deadline we will not accept any new transfers to or from a session, or withdrawals from a session. Please check the calendar to find out when your deadline is and write it down. We cannot make exceptions for those who misunderstand the time/date for the deadline.

Can I transfer from an overnight EFY session to a Stay-at-Home Program?

Yes, but call the EFY office, 801-422-3817, ext. 0. You must withdraw from the overnight session and then enroll in the Stay-at-Home program. The office manager will adjust your withdrawal fee.

How do I transfer from one session to another?

See Transferring Sessions.

PLEASE NOTE: If you select “Withdraw” instead of “Transfer,” you will not be transferred. You will simply be removed from the session and refunded your money, minus a $25 withdrawal fee. This fee is nonrefundable, even if you withdraw by accident, so be sure to choose the transfer option.

If you have any trouble with the transfer process, call BYU Continuing Education Registration at 801-422-8925 (toll free, 1-877-221-6716) or the EFY office, 801-422-3817, ext. 0. The staff can answer your questions and will even complete the transfer for a $10 fee.
